Putting students first

Background and Community College Experience

Rebecca has been an educator for over 40 years. With degrees in Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara University and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from San Francisco State University, Rebecca has devoted her career to improving student access to higher education. Recently retired from West Valley College, she is currently an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco.

 

Local, State and National Advocacy

As a faculty member at WVC, Rebecca started a resource center focused on promoting student success in mathematics and directed a multi-million dollar federal grant designed to improve distance learning and improve student access to online support services. At the state level, Rebecca helped to design and facilitate the Leading for the Middle Academy, a project-based leadership development program that has worked with faculty and classified leaders in half of the community colleges in CA. Active in national statistics education initiatives, Rebecca currently is a Principal Investigator for a National Science Foundation Grant designed to help two-year colleges start data science programs to increase student access to this growing career field.

 

Community Service

Rebecca is an active volunteer in several community organizations. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Eastside Educational Foundation raising scholarships for students in East San Jose to attend college. In addition she is active in the Cursillo movement and has volunteered weekly in a local retirement community for almost 20 years.

 

Platform

Rebecca is committed to ensuring that tax dollars are spent wisely to promote success in higher education and career opportunities for the greatest number of WVMCCD students.
